Villages’ quick action will save $42,000 in tariffs on pair of new firetrucks

Quick action by Villages officials will save $42,000 in tariffs on a pair of new firetrucks.

Villages Fire Chief Edmund Cain on Wednesday urged the Village Center Community Development District Board of Supervisors to move forward with a letter of intent to purchase two 2019 E-One Typhoon Pumpers.

Each of the trucks will cost $474,971 for a total price of $949,942.

The price of these pumpers will increase by 4.5 percent, or $21,373 each, after Sept. 1 due to new tariffs.

The firetrucks are needed because of the rapid growth of The Villages.

The first additional fire apparatus will replace an existing engine, and the second fire apparatus is required due to The Villages Public Safety Department adding a ninth fire station to The Villages, Cain said.

The fire chief’s proposal received unanimous approval.
