Two people were arrested after they were spotted in the wee hours of the morning near businesses that were closed in Wildwood.

An officer had been on patrol at about 4 a.m. Thursday in the area of U.S. 301 and NE 34th Avenue when he spotted a red pickup truck with its headlights on. The driver of the pickup pulled away after spotting the police officer’s patrol car. A traffic stop was initiated.

The driver was identified as 29-year-old Rian Robert Miller, of Wildwood. He changed his story several times about why he was there and at one point claimed he was collecting kitchen sinks and other items. A K-9 alerted on the truck, indicating the likely presence of drugs. Miller was found to be in possession of methamphetamine and a hypodermic needle. He is currently on felony probation for a prior conviction of grand theft.

A passenger in the vehicle, 25-year-old Datha Green, of Webster, was also found to be in possession of methamphetamine.

Both were taken into custody and booked at the Sumter County Detention Center.
