William F. Crumel Jr. Foundation gala to raise money for college scholarships

Some members of the William F. Crumel Jr. Foundation met at Belvedere Library to work on the upcoming 20th Anniversary Gala & Fundraiser set for 4 to 7 p.m. May 4 at Eisenhower Recreation Center. This year the event changed from spring tea to a gala to celebrate the 20th year.

The program will feature speaker Phil Davis from the Baltimore Sun, with dinner and dancing to live music from popular Village entertainer Rudy Turner and many items for the silent auction.

The William F. Crumel Jr. Foundation is a 501(c) (3) organization committed to providing scholarships to deserving high school students.

All money collected through fundraising efforts are earmarked for scholarships for underserved high school graduates.

“Our investment in local students goes beyond providing scholarships. In partnership with Grace AME Church, we sponsor the Grace Crumel Coaching Program, which coaches  students in grades 9-12 and helps with the college application and financial aid process,” said Villager Nancy Jordan Blackmore, a member of the planning committee.

The group also operates a virtual coaching program to support scholarship recipients while they are in college.

The WFC Jr. Foundation offers renewable scholarships to the recipients. In the past 19 years, the foundation has awarded more than $100,000 in scholarships to graduating high school students enrolled in universities and colleges throughout the United States.

“We all know that every fundraiser needs sponsors to be successful therefore local businesses are joining our movement to change the lives of youth that without their support would not be able to attend college,” said WFC Jr. Foundation founder Anita Crumel.
