To the Editor:
This winter season was an eye opener for golfers. We all come from somewhere else and bring with us not only the quality of golf courses but the charges as well.
Why is this of interest? I offer up the fact that almost 80 percent of this country offers golf at lower rates with in many cases with only a handful of months in which to operate.
Someone told me that the rates on professional courses have risen 27 percent in three seasons. If that is true why did The Villages stop their overseeding in the winter which helps a course. If the answer was cost saving, why the price increase.
By the way I suspect 99.9 percent of golfers drive their OWN carts, thereby minimizing cost. No course off campus comes close to the charges here.
I think The Villages should charge green fees but it should never become a wonderful profit center. Why aren’t the championship courses ever turned over to the residents? Lots of discussion going on. When will the championship courses south of Brownwood coming?
