A Villager was arrested after a brawl with his neighbor’s landscaping crew.
Michael Heath Buchanan, 61, was arrested on charges of battery and resisting arrest this past Friday afternoon at his home at 1119 Fieldbrook Way in the Village of Fernandina.
The arrest was the result of a May 1 incident in which Buchanan threw a tennis ball at a female landscaper and attempted to strike a male landscaper with gas-powered blower, according to an arrest report from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office. They had been performing landscaping at a neighbor’s home when Buchanan came outside and began yelling at them. The female landscaper told deputies that Buchanan had threatened to kill them.
Buchanan had been arrested twice in 2019 for some bizarre behavior. He had been jailed in a New Year’s Eve attack on his wife which sent her to The Villages Regional Hospital. About a month and a half later, Buchanan was arrested while clutching a kitchen knife as he was sleeping between a grill and sliding glass door at his home on Fieldbrook Way. His presence there had defied a court order obtained by his wife.
Buchanan was released Saturday night from the Sumter County Detention Center after posting bond.
