Frankie Brin Financial Grey 70’s team victorious at tourney

The Frankie Brin Grey 70’s team traveled to Boombah Softball Complex in Sanford on Feb. 3-4 and won the Bracket #4 Championship with a 3-1 record.

The tournament was a dog fight from beginning to end. FBG lost the first game 15-13 and won the next two games 16-5 and 15-5.  The last game which turned out to be the championship game was tied 12-12 after 4 innings. The fifth inning was the open inning due to the rain shortened games on Sunday.  (40 minutes plus 1 inning). FBG scored 7 runs with Chris Iorio hitting an ITP grand slam HR and later in the inning Randy Bayliss hit a 3 run ITP HR.  The final score was 19-13.

Three teams ended up with a 3-1 record.  FBG gave up 38 runs over the 4 games, beating out Dirty Sports by 5 runs for the tiebreaker (least runs given up). 

John Ramage had an excellent performance pitching all four games. 

Outstanding runners throughout the tournament were Mick Umlauf, Dave Croney, Steve Keck, Randy Bayliss, Kevin Moore and Bob DuCharme chipped in. 

“Our women and other supporters gave the team a tremendous boost throughout the tournament with their high-spirited cheering,” said the team’s manager Dick Kanyan. 

He said the performance was an outstanding team effort. 

“It was especially difficult on Sunday with 15-20 mph wind,” Kanyan said.    

Leading hitters were:  Rod Severson (.900) 3B, 2B, 10 RBI, Dave Sacharski (.846) 2B-2, 4 RBI, Bob Ducharme (.818) 5 RBI, Dave Croney (.750) 5 RBI, Chris Iorio (.727) ITP Grand Slam HR, 2B, 8 RBI, Kevin Moore (.727) 4 RBI, John Rebardo (.727) 5 RBI, Randy Bayliss (.636) 3 run ITP HR, 11 RBI, Steve Keck (.636) 2B, 2 RBI, Dick Kanyan and John Ramage (.600).  Other team players – John Iorio, Dave Sellars, and Mick Umlauf.  Dave Mamuscia – Statistician
