Barbara Jo Pappas

Barbara Jo Pappas, 68, of The Villages, FL, passed unexpectedly from this life Monday, December 25, 2017. She was born in Christopher, IL, to the late Harley and Marietta (Adams) Goessman.

Barbara leaves her beloved husband of 27 years, James T. Pappas; her daughters; April L. Curtis (David) of Hobart, IN; Monica M. Hall (Overturf) of Chesterton, IN; Steve M. Pappas (Lisa) of Valparaiso; and John C. Pappas of Dale Hollow, TN. Grandchildren-Nate Trinosky, Devon Curtis, Alexs, Kayla, and Madison Hall, and Bryce and Brock Pappas. Also surviving are James Pappas, Lynn Pappas, and Pam Pappas and several other grandchildren. She is also preceded in death by her son William “Drake” Overturf.

Barbara was an executive assistant for the Wheeler Bowers Home Builders and Grieger’s Motor Sales both of Northwest Indiana.

Barbara and her husband James came to The Villages from Wanatah, IN in 2011. She was very grateful to live in The Villages. She enjoyed life, her family and friends. Barbara was involved in a variety of clubs in The Villages including The Villages Racing Club (membership chairman), the Goldwing Club (secretary), Springdale & Friends Social Club and the National Rifle Association (NRA). Barb was the man power coordinator for the Division 4 Neighborhood Softball League and score keeper for the St. James softball team. She enjoyed bicycling, motor cycles, golf, water aerobics, knitting, pokeeno, NASCAR (#24Jeff Gordon), the Oak Ridge Boys and a good glass of Southern Red wine.

Barbara was active in the community with the Alzheimer’s Family Support Walk at the Polo Grounds in The Villages. Every year she opened the gates for the annual walk. She and her husband James also traveled to the Florida State House in Pensacola, every year to lobby for the Moffitt Cancer Center.

A thank you goes out to the The Villages Racing Club, the Springdale Social Club, Goldwing Club, Division #4 Softball Players, the St. James Neighbors & Friends for all their support during this difficult time. The family would especially like to thank Bob and Janine Woodsford and Mike and Joanne Henchen for being there every step of the way for our family. We can not thank you enough.

A Memorial Service was held on December 28, 2017. There will be no visitation and burial will be private and at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her honor to the Alzheimers Family Organization. Barb has been a big supporter of this organization, since the passing of her father who suffered from the disease. https://alzheimersfamily.org
