It is again time for the members of the Sumter Landing Bicycle Club to clean up their adopted highway, Rainey Trail.
Since the bicycle club adopted this highway 10 years ago, club volunteers have been cleaning up the Rainey Trail (County Road 472) between U.S. 301 and Buena Vista Boulevard at least twice a year.
Their cleanups are scheduled for Sunday afternoons when the traffic is minimal and the bicycle club does not have rides scheduled. After each cleanup, the volunteers socialize at a local restaurant. Â This community effort was originally organized by Bill Coburn, who led the effort for seven years.
Currently, Debbie Dessert leads the effort. She can be contacted at debbiteach01@gmail.com.
If your club or other organization is interested in contributing to the community by adopting a local highway, you can contact Sumter County Public Works at (352) 569-6700.
