Face-slapping woman jailed after battle over money erupts at Summerfield home

Crystal Lee Burgett

Marion County sheriff’s deputies were called to a Summerfield home early Thursday morning after an alcohol-induced battle over money left a man with red marks on the side of his face.

When deputies arrived at the residence, located on SE 92nd Court, a man told them that he and 32-year-old Crystal Lee Burgett had both been drinking and had argued with each other. The man said he went to another room to lie down and Burgett came out of the bedroom and started “yelling at him and accusing him of taking her money.”

The man said Burgett allegedly slapped him in the face multiple times and punched him in the back of the head when he turned away from her, a sheriff’s office report states, noting that the deputy saw red marks on the left side of the man’s face.

Burgett, who claimed nothing physical occurred between her and the man, was taken into custody and transported to the Marion County Jail, where he was charged with domestic battery. She was released late Friday night on $500 bond and is due in a Marion County courtroom on May 17 at 8 a.m. to answer to the charges.
