A Villager suspected of drunk driving declared “enough is enough” during field sobriety exercises in the parking lot at Cody’s Original Roadhouse at Lake Sumter Landing.
Joseph Godin, 73, of the Village of Liberty Park, had been driving a blue Ford passenger car at 11:04 p.m. Friday when his vehicle made a wide turn, according to an arrest report from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office. A traffic stop was initiated at the restaurant’s parking lot. Godin had “extremely slurred speech and many of his words were difficult to understand,” the report said.
He was asked if he had anything to drink and replied, “1, 2, 3 … 3 rum and Cokes.”
Godin was invited to take part in field sobriety exercises. He advised deputies he had “general hip pains due to his age.” He struggled through the exercises and finally declared, “Enough is enough.” He refused to provide a breath sample.
Godin also refused to sign a citation that was issued to him.
He was arrested on charges of driving under the influence and refusal to sign a citation. He was booked at the Sumter County Detention Center and released after posting $1,500 bond.
