Sumter commissioners vote to end Villages Fire Rescue Impact Fees

The Sumter County Commission has voted to end the collection of Villages Fire Rescue Impact Fees.

The vote Tuesday was unanimous.

The commission had adopted The Villages Fire Rescue Impact Fee Ordinance in 2005. The fees were collected to construct improvements and additions to the fire rescue system in order to accommodate new development and growth.

With buildout in The Villages drawing ever closer, there is no need for additional fire stations.

“I think this is the end of a successful program. To be able to rescind this and reduce the impact fee makes it easier to do business in Sumter County,” said Commissioner Don Hahnfeldt.

County Administrator Bradley Arnold noted that the fire rescue impact fee was being ended sooner than anticipated.
