An 18-year-old who had been arrested in March after driving his car into the backyard of a home in the Village of Lynnhaven is back behind bars.
Nathan Matthew Roma of Wildwood was arrested by a Sumter County sheriff’s deputy at 7:30 p.m. Thursday on West Torch Lake Road in Brownwood when he was picked up on a probation violation.
In the March incident, a deputy found Roma sitting on the curb with personnel from Community Watch standing near him. Roma had driven an Acura RSX into a backyard, the arrest report indicated. Roma told the deputy he had been “hanging out” at Denny’s on Bella Cruz Drive and had been sneaking whiskey into his drink. He failed field sobriety exercises. He was arrested on a charge of driving under the influence and possession of liquor by a person under the age of 21.
But according to Sumter County court records, Roma was able to successfully bargain the charges down to careless driving. He entered a plea of no contest on April 21.
He was booked Thursday without bond at the Sumter County Detention Center.
