Dump truck, car and SUV collide near Villages’ SR44 entrance

Three people were transported from the scene of a collision between a dump truck, car and SUV Thursday afternoon near the entrance to The Villages off State Road 44.

The accident occurred at about 2:30 p.m. at the intersection of State Road 44 and Powell Road near the Grand Traverse Plaza, said Deputy Chief Paul Valentino of the Wildwood Police Department.

Three people were transported by ambulance from the scene of the accident to Leesburg Regional Medical Center, Valentino said.

Initially, it appeared the injured were to be airlifted, and a helicopter had touched down in a landing zone, but instead they were transported by ambulance, he said.

The accident remains under investigation.
