Dump truck bed gets lodged at overpass on Interstate 75 in Sumter County

A dump truck bed broke off and got lodged Tuesday morning at an overpass on Interstate 75 in Sumter County.

Robert Hunt, 63, of Citrus Springs, had been driving the dump truck at 8:40 a.m. northbound on I-75 at Mile Marker 323 when a trooper noticed the truck’s bed was raised, according to an accident report from the Florida Highway Patrol.

A dump truck bed got lodged at an overpass on Interstate 75 in Sumter County.

The trooper attempted to initiate a traffic stop, but Hunt did not notice and the raised truck bed collided with the County Road 514 overpass. The dump bed was torn from the frame of the truck and became lodged between the overpass and outside travel lane of I-75.

The accident shut down portions of I-75 as crews worked throughout the day to assure the integrity of the bridge.

Hunt was not injured and was ticketed on a charge of careless driving.
