Recreation director promises big changes coming Jan. 10 to Recreation News

John Rohan

Recreation Director John Rohan told the Amenity Authority Committee on Wednesday that big changes are coming Jan. 10 to Recreation News.

Rohan had been tasked earlier this year with revamping Recreation News after an outcry from residents over the soaring costs. This year, Recreation News, which appears each Thursday in the Daily Sun and is distributed for free at recreations centers, was expected to top $700,000 to produce, money which comes from amenity fees paid by residents. That dollar amount had been pared down from a higher figure after officials heard from enraged Villagers who said the print version of Recreation News is wasteful and seldom read.

Rohan said that efforts to cut back had negatively impacted clubs which try to reach Villagers through Recreation News.

AAC Chair Ann Forrester confirmed she had heard from heads of clubs frustrated that their representation in Recreation News has been limited.

Rohan credited new MaxGalaxy software for streamlining the layout of Recreation News. MaxGalaxy specifically designs products for the recreation industry.

“You’ll see a really cool layout. We’re really excited about it,” Rohan said.
