The Sumter County Sheriff’s Office had received a complaint about the golf cart at about 10:30 p.m. Friday spotted near Cody’s Original Roadhouse at Lake Sumter Landing.

A deputy caught up with the golf cart on the multi-modal path along Buena Vista Boulevard and saw that it almost struck several other vehicles, according to an arrest report.

During a traffic stop at the entrance to the Village of Bridgeport at Lake Sumter, the driver of the blue 2016 Yamaha golf cart was identified as Jordan Davies Gibson of 2370 Jonesbury Run.

He told the deputy he had consumed four Michelob Ultra beers at Cody’s, according to the arrest report. He also said he had taken prescription medicine at 9 a.m. that morning.

He gave up on field sobriety exercises and at one point told the deputy, “I couldn’t do that if I was sober.” He refused to provide a breath sample.

Gibson later told the deputy he was following his father home for the night and “ended up losing visual of his father which resulted in him getting lost,” according to the arrest report.

He was booked on a charge of DUI at the Sumter County Detention Center and released after posting $1,000 bond.
