Charles Gustaf Anderson Jr., of The Villages, FL, beloved husband of Joanne Byrd Anderson, died Monday, February 29th, peacefully and on his own terms after a long illness.

Charlie was born in Brooklyn, NY in July 1925 to Charles and Florence Anderson, and was raised in Wilton, CT, attending Staples High School. In October 1943, he enlisted in the Army, landing on Utah Beach in Normandy in July 1944. He went on to serve as a heavy machine gunner in Northern France, the Rhineland, and Central Europe until returning home in January 1946.

After the War he returned to Connecticut, working at DeWaters Hardware and Norden Systems over the years. He resided in Norwalk with his wife of 25 years, Anna Coley Anderson, who predeceased him in 1992. Charlie was also predeceased by his sisters Florence Kvande and Helen Frate.

In 1993, he married Joanne Byrd Anderson, and in 1998 they moved to The Villages. A quiet, giving man, Charlie was beloved by all who knew him. While in CT, he was a member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows Lodge – Thomas C. Hollis Crusaders. He was a champion bowler, bocce player and a member of the American Legion Post #0347. He loved his New York Yankees and New York Giants, but most of all he loved his wife, Joanne.

In addition to his wife Joanne, Charlie leaves behind his sister-in-law, Clara Coley Roos; his nephew, Richard Nagot; his grand-niece & her husband, Jennifer & Jeff Juke, and a grand-nephew and his wife, Kevin & Sara Nagot, all of Connecticut. He is also survived by two nieces and their husbands, Helen & Bud Holderman of North Carolina and Carol & Jim Cunningham of New York.

A memorial service will be held at St. George Episcopal Church in Lady Lake on Wednesday, March 9, 2016 at 10 a.m.. Burial will be private. Donations in Charlie’s memory may be made to the charity of one’s choice.
