CFL 2017 summer highlights week 2

Central Florida League week two action saw three games decided by a total of four runs.

The first game of the day was a pitcher’s duel as FBC Mortgage defeated Gators Brownwood by 3-1.

Jim Moyer, subbing for Jim Joseph, held Gators to just 11 hits with Chick Cicatelli, Fred Hughes, and Wayne Grunewald stroking two hits apiece. Fred Hughes, pitching for Gators, kept FBC to only seven hits. Marty Berger scored on a hit by Ed Joseph after hitting a double in the first. In the fourth inning Ron Parson led off with a single and Berger followed with a single. Ed Haith hit a double to drive in both runs.                                                                                                                                                                                                     The other early game saw CarePlus come back in the bottom of the seventh to score two runs and overcome Softball’s R Game 7-6.

Dan Kincaid led SRG with three hits, including a triple. Gary Nicolay, Charles Clare, Jim Crabtree, and sub, Tom Gilewski all had two hits in the loss. CarePlus got on the score board with five runs in the fourth. Pat Rice drove in two with a triple and scored on a hit by Dave Oatley. John Reedy and Jim Wiegand followed with singles to drive in Oatley. SRG turned two double plays to end the fifth and sixth innings. In the bottom of the seventh the first two CarePlus batters were out. Mark Goodwin got the first hit and scored on Pat Rice’s double. A walk to Dave Oatley brought up John Reedy, who got the walk off single by stroking a hit to right field.

The day’s late game saw another barnburner as Synergy Wealth came back in the bottom of the eighth to defeat Palm Ridge Dental 12-11.

Palm Ridge scored five runs in the first with Tom Brock driving in the first with a triple. Mike Hyott scored Brock with a single and following a single by Paul Justice scored on a double by Kenny Atkinson. Following walks to Ken Scanlon and Ralph Furbush Vinny Caso drove in the fifth run with a single. In the third Ken Atkinson stroked a two run homer to take Palm Ridge to a seven run lead. In the fifth inning Rod Severson hit a triple and scored on a sacrifice hit by Mike Hyott. Tied after seven innings Palm Ridge scored two runs on a homer by Severson. Synergy got their first run in the third as Dave Pope drove in Jeff Bekasi. In the fifth Synergy got two runs, one on a double by Art Anton which scored Al DuBuc and the other on a misplayed ball by Jeff Stein. In the sixth Synergy scored five as Dave Pope led off with a single followed by a walk to Craig Dahlquist. Bob Buchanan drove them both in with a single. Jim Gordon and Bud Ramsey hit singles to load the bases. After an out by Vernon Brooks Al DuBuc reached on an error and one run scored. Art Anton ended the scoring by driving in two runs with a double. As neither team scored in the seventh, Craig Dahlquist started on second base and scored on a hit by Bob Buchanan. Jim Gordon and Bud Ramsey reached base to load them up. Following an out by Vernon Brooks, Al DuBuc hit a single to score a run. Art Anton drove in the winning run with a single.
