The dogs and their people took over the O’Dell Recreation Center’s pavilion for the annual “Dog-A-Palooza” and Easter egg hunt. The event drew 160 members, Villages friends and their companion dogs of all breeds and sizes, to a fun filled afternoon.
Entertainment was provided by the Canine Drill followed by dogs from the Lifelong Learning Center’s Tricks Class. Dogs were weaving around obstacles, jumping through hoops and over bars, ringing bells and dashing through small tunnels. There were games for dogs and their owners to
play with “treasured” squeaky chew toys for the winners.
Demonstrations and games were followed by the Easter Parade and the doggie Easter Bonnet/costume contest. It was a “difficult decision” for the judges, but after much consideration the following doggies were selected:
1st Place – “Miss Tee,” a Spaniel/Terrier, owned by Joanne Leveilee, Village of Amelia.
2nd Place – “Sweet Sadie,”a Border Collie, owned by
Carmen Tedrick, Village of Amelia.
3rd Place – “Dracula,” a Chihuahua/Jack Russell, owned by Pat Egan, Village of Santiago
4th Place – “Tinker Bell,” Chihuahua, owned by Nancy McClintock, Village of Fernandina
The celebration concluded with the eagerly anticipated “Doggie Easter Egg Hunt.” All the dogs were invited to participate in finding the plastic eggs filled with doggie treats that had been scattered in the surrounding area. Dogs of all sizes hunted with great enthusiasm and gusto, relishing each egg they found.
