Former manager of Brownwood ice cream parlor lands back behind bars

The former manager of a Brownwood ice cream parlor is being held without bond at the Sumter County Detention Center.

Kelsey Rae Banta, 25, of Fruitland Park, was jailed Monday on a probation violation.

Banta was originally arrested in January 2015 after she pocketed $1,700 from the night deposit at Scooples Ice Cream Parlor and Restaurant, where she had been working as a manager.

In October in Sumter County Court, Banta entered a plea of no contest to a charge of grand theft. She was sentenced to three years probation. She was also ordered to pay $1,518 in fines and court costs. She was also ordered to perform 40 hours of community service.

Banta had also faced a charge of grand theft in 2012 but was able to avoid prosecution by entering a pre-trial diversion program.
