Release of accident report sheds light on crash last week near Laurel Manor

The release of an accident report is shedding additional light on a crash last week near Laurel Manor Recreation Center in The Villages.

Estella Victoria Shivers, 78, of the Village of Tall Trees, had been driving a red 2016 Cadillac CTS westbound on County Road 466 at 10:51 a.m. Aug. 22 when she made a left turn into Laurel Manor, according to the accident report from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office.

A woman had to be freed from this SUV in a crash Aug. 22 on County Road 466 near Laurel Manor Recreation Center.

Her vehicle collided with a white 2015 BMW sport utility vehicle that had been eastbound on CR 466 and driven by 84-year-old Donald Burton Thompson, of the Village of Tierra Del Sol South.

The impact knocked Shivers’ vehicle onto its side and she was trapped in the SUV until The Villages Public Safety Department arrived on the scene and was able to free her.

Thompson suffered abrasions when the airbag deployed in his vehicle. He was evaluated at the scene by EMS.

The air bag deployed in the white BMW in the crash.

Shivers was transported by ambulance to The Villages Regional Hospital. She was ticketed on a charge of failure to yield. Both vehicles were towed from the scene
