To the Editor:
My doorbell rang at 7:15 p.m. last night. A well-dressed man claimed to be from Comcast. I said no soliciting. He said yes he could. I closed the door on him and contacted Community Watch as I have done in the past. The dispatcher told me that if I felt threatened or harassed I should contact the sheriff’s office. Community Watch would do nothing.
Apparently, they no longer dispatch vehicles to chase away solicitors or take the information and contact the company about the violation.
I went outside to see if he was at a neighbor’s villa, but no sign of him.
So the solicitor was correct. The signs at our gates are meaningless since the enforcement mechanism has been discontinued. So why haven’t the residents been informed of the change in policy or the reason behind it?
