Thomas “Tommy” C. Gorman Sr., 72, of The Villages, FL, passed on Thursday, January 5, 2017 after a heroic and hard fought battle with lung cancer. He leaves behind his cherished wife of 16 years, Pegi Wieland Gorman; beloved children, Thomas Charles Gorman, Jr., Tammy Lee Gorman (Steve) Mayer, Colby Hooper (stepson) and adored granddaughter Hannah Jean Mayer. After his family, Tommy’s great love was theatre and all facets of show business. A consummate professional whose outstanding interpersonal and technical skills helped bring joy to countless audiences around the world. Whether trouping in the hinterlands around Pittsburgh with Vanguard Theatre or in world music capitals with the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, Tommy was always there, making sure that what was on that stage would be the best. He was a member of I.A.T.S.E Local #3 (Stage Employees) for over 50 years. American humorist Will Rogers once said, “… for I never yet met a man that I didn’t like.” Tommy could have easily owned that quote. So many have been touched by his infectious smile, his ever-cheerful outlook, his genuine concern for people and his “always ready” laugh. It has been a privilege for all to have known him and to have been touched by him. While he will be greatly missed, just thinking of him will bring a smile. A memorial celebration of Tommy’s life will be scheduled in The Villages, Florida at a later date to be determined.
