Work on the Villages of Fruitland Park is moving at a fast and furious pace.

The first order of business is the extension of Pinellas Place which will connect the new villages via Moyer Loop.

The connection will run between the Sarasota Practice Facility and Villages Public Safety Station 44.

Heavy equipment has been mobilized and is moving at a brisk pace at the site.

A public hearing Tuesday evening on the Villages of Fruitland Park drew no comment in front of the  Sumter County Board of Commissioners.

Although the new development of 780 acres falls outside the jurisdiction of Sumter County, commissioners were asked to sign off on the amended plans for the development as the original request had gone through Sumter County.

Last week, Fruitland Park Commissioners unanimously approved the formation of Community Development District 11.

The CDD serves as a funding mechanism so that infrastructure for the planned 2,000 homes of the Villages of Fruitland Park can be put into place.

The new homes could ultimately generate a billion dollar in sales for The Villages.
