The Tri-County Tea Party Florida is sponsoring a food and children’s clothing drive for the homeless military families living in the nearby forest.

SOS (Saving Our Soldiers organization) will have a truck outside  American Legion Post 347 in Lady Lake beginning at 6 p.m. Monday, Dec. 15 to collect food, toys (new of in good condition), clothes, tarps and personal items.

“Now that there are so many young men and women coming home from overseas, the numbers of jobless and homeless veterans has increased accordingly. Likewise, there are so many charities that are competing for the same support that are sending funds to other countries, it hurts the efforts to fight hunger and homelessness here in the United States, It may not be a popular opinion, but I believe we need to take care of our own here at home first, and then assist others in need living in foreign countries,” said Villager Gary Kadow, chairman and founder Project SOS – Support Our Soldiers, Inc.

“Were it not for our veterans and their families sacrifice, we would not have the freedom and liberties we enjoy today,” Kadow said.

Project SOS-Support Our Soldiers, Inc., was founded in August 2009, and was established as a 501(c)3 recognized charity that supports our US military serving overseas, our disabled veterans, and our homeless veterans. Initially, Project SOS provided medical and surgical supplies to military personnel who were carrying out humanitarian missions in Iraq and Afghanistan. This resulted in the opening of 22 medical clinics and one pediatric hospital being opened to treat the innocent children caught in the middle of these terrible wars. All these facilities were operated by US Military Medical Battalions, and thousands of children’s lives were saved as a result of our troops efforts. This is in addition to caring for homeless veterans and families living in the Ocala National Forest.
