Just call Maestro Bill Doherty Broadway Bill.
Doherty is bringing a little bit of Broadway to The Villages with an all-star show on Friday, and also the classic “My Fair Lady,” on May 5 and 6.
On Friday at 4 and 7 p.m., Doherty presents “The Best of Broadway” at St. Timothy Catholic Church, 1351 Paige Place. The concert features Broadway veterans Grant Norman – who portrayed the Phantom on Broadway – along with Melissa and Brian Minyard.
Proceeds will benefit the Oscar Feliu Scholarship Program.
Grant Norman starred in “The Phantom of the Opera” and “Miss Saigon” on Broadway.
Phantom, though was special.
“When I joined on to the National Tour, it was still just a year old and was hitting cities for the first time,” he told Central Florida Lyric Opera online. “It was quite a sensation! Always a great buzz in every city, and quite a lot to live up to. What a wonderful character to play.” Norman starred in Phantom for two years on Broadway, and London.
Brian Minyard appeared in “Annie Get Your Gun” on Broadway and also teamed with his wife Melissa in television and films. Their resume includes soap operas “One Life to Live” and “All My Children.”
Broadway regular Patrick Sullivan will star in “My Fair Lady” on May 5 and 6 – at 2 and 7 p.m. each day – in the Savannah Center. Sullivan has appeared in Broadway productions of “42nd Street,” “Titanic” and “Beauty and the Beast.”
