A man with a suspended license was arrested Thursday after he sped past a deputy’s patrol car.

William Jared Shearer, 31, of Lakeland, was driving a pickup at about noon Thursday and traveling 63 miles per hour in a 45 mph zone, according to an arrest report. He came up behind a patrol vehicle driven by a Lake County sheriff’s deputy and passed it. The deputy then pulled him over on Gray’s Airport Road in Fruitland Park and Shearer told him his license was suspended. The deputy allowed Shearer to have his father come and pick up the truck before taking Shearer to jail on a charge of driving while license suspended. He was also given a written warning for speeding.

He was booked at the Lake County Jail where bond was set at $2,000.
