Deputies pair up with diners to support athletes of Special Olympics

It was a packed house Tuesday night at City Fire at Brownwood as the dinner crowd was served by deputies from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office.

Elaine Hirschfeld of the Village of Labelle South and Lois Schwartz of the Village of Duval went to dinner not knowing that deputies were taking part in the annual Tip-A-Cop effort to support Sumter County Special Olympics.

“It is good to know you can do this, have fun and help Special Olympics,” Hirschfeld said. “And it’s good to see all of these deputies here.”

City Fire General Manager John Waterloo did his part to give the deputies’ efforts on behalf of Special Olympics an extra boost. He booked popular entertainer Mark Seymour, who always draws a crowd at the popular Brownwood eatery.

“We really believe in Special Olympics,” Waterloo said.

Diners are given a special envelope in which they can leave a tip for their deputy server. The money left in the envelope goes directly to Special Olympics.
