Four Villagers seek seats on Fruitland Park Commission

Four Villagers filed to seek seats on the Fruitland Park Commission.

Patrick Alan DeGrave of the Village of Pine Ridge was the only candidate who filed to run in District 1. He will automatically claim his seat on the commission.

Three Villagers filed to run in District 2. They are:

• Fred Collins who lives at 3069 Brinson Lane.

• August Kellerman who lives at 2982 Kramer Court.

• John Mobilian who lives at 3735 Conservation Trail.

Those three candidates will compete in a primary election to be held Aug. 28. The top two candidates will advance to a general election Nov. 6.

The newly elected commissioners will serve four-year terms and will fill the seats currently held by Rick Ranize and Ray Lewis, who were elected in November 2014 at the same time voters overwhelmingly approved an amendment to divide the city into five districts.

This will mark the first time Villagers will serve on the Fruitland Park Commission.

“I’m really excited that Villages residents who live in Fruitland Park are interested in getting involved in our city. This is the first time they have been able to run for office here and I look forward to the fresh ideas and thoughts the new commissioners will bring to the table after the November election,” said Mayor Christopher Cheshire.
