Wad of funny money turned into sheriff’s office in The Villages

A Groveland man traveled to The Villages to turn in a bag of counterfeit money he found.

The 59-year-old man, who lives in the 800 block of Oak Drive in Groveland, went to the Marion County Sheriff’s Office’s South District Office, located at 8230 SE 165th Mulberry Ln., with $1,800 in counterfeit $100 bills. The man said he found the bills, which all had the same serial number, at a Sunoco gas station in Citra, a sheriff’s office report states.

The man told deputies that he was on the job at the gas station, located at 18353 N. U.S. 301, when he found the money. And he added that he had no idea who the bills belonged to, the report says, adding that a deputy placed the fake money into evidence at The Villages office.
