Gloria Estefan’s drummer arrested after alleged attack in The Villages

Olbin Juan Burgos

A drummer who has toured with Gloria Estefan and the Miami Sound Machine was arrested after an alleged intoxicated attack on a woman in The Villages.

Sumter County sheriff’s deputies were called at 6:45 p.m. Wednesday to a home in The Villages where a woman said said came home from walking her dog and found 58-year-old Olbin Juan Burgos consuming alcohol and already intoxicated. She said Burgos “became verbally aggressive” and pushed her, according to an arrest report. She “secluded” herself in a bathroom “until he calmed down,” the report said.

However, when deputies arrived on the scene at the home, the address of which was redacted from the arrest report, the woman refused to provide a sworn statement.

“I don’t want him to get into trouble,” she told the deputies.

Olbin Burgos is a professional drummer.

Burgos started playing with Estefan on the world tour “Evolution” in 1996 and 1997. In November of 2015, he began performing on Broadway in the hit musical “On Your Feet,” featuring the music of Estefan and the Miami Sound Machine.

He told deputies he had “consumed two boxes of wine.” He said he had been “home cleaning.” He admitted he argued with the woman, but denied touching her.

Burgos, who has a previous arrest for battery, was taken into custody on a felony charge of battery. He was booked at the Sumter County Detention Center on $7,000 bond.
