The Florida Highway Patrol is looking for a woman who was driving a Mercedes and fled the scene after striking two Villagers who were on bicycles.
The white Mercedes sedan had been southbound on Morse Boulevard at Bonita Boulevard at 11:20 a.m. Friday when the vehicle struck a bicycle ridden by 68-year-old Robert Hunter and another bicycle ridden by 60-year-old Jessica Laube, according to an accident report from FHP. Both riders were knocked from their bicycles after impact.Â
The Village of Dunedin couple were transported to the Ocala Regional Medical Center Trauma Unit. Hunter has been released, but Laube has not fully regained consciousness and is in the intensive care unit receiving oxygen via a ventilator, according to the Sumter Landing Bicycle Club, of which both are members.
The Mercedes is described as having heavy damage to the right side and front windshield. The driver was described as a white female. She stopped briefly, then got back into her car and drove away. Â
Both bicyclists had been wearing helmets.
