A 44-year-old Village of St. Charles woman has been sentenced to jail time in connection with a golf cart driving under the influence case in February.

Marjorie Martinka, who resides in the Oak Meadows section of The Villages, was sentenced Tuesday in Sumter County Court. She has been ordered to serve 60 days in jail and 11 months 29 days probation. She will be assessed nearly $1,800 in fines and court costs.

She had been driving the golf cart at about 1 a.m. Feb. 1 at Duval Court and Beatrice Way in the Village of St. Charles. A 1.75 liter bottle of Skol Raspberry Vodka was found in the golf cart. Martinka failed field sobriety exercises and refused to submit to a breath test.

In 2014, she had been arrested on a charge of DUI with property damage. She also refused to a breath test in that arrest, according to Sumter County Court records. She was ordered to seek substance abuse evaluation and follow recommended treatment. She was also ordered to participate in a victim impact panel. She was sentenced to one year’s probation.
