A couple was arrested last week when drugs were discovered in their vehicle while they were traveling on County Road 204 in Oxford.

Jimmy Ryan Lain, 34, of Hickory, N.C. was spotted behind the wheel of a Ford Expedition on Tuesday, according to an arrest report from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office. The deputy making the traffic stop knew Lain did not have a valid driver’s license, only an identification card from North Carolina.

In the vehicle with him was Ashley Richet Elrod, 33, of Belleview. In her purse, the drugs Diazepam and Alprazolam were discovered. She was also carrying methamphetamine, the arrest report indicated.

Elrod was arrested on two felony charges of drug possession and a charge of allowing an unauthorized person to drive.

Lain was arrested on charges of driving without a valid license and possession of drug equipment.

Both were booked at the Sumter County Detention Center.
