Young person killed when vehicle hydroplanes and crashes into tree in Marion County

A young person was killed when a vehicle hyrdoplaned and crashed into a tree Thursday evening in Marion County.

The juvenile male from Silver Springs, whose identity has not been released, had been riding in a 2003 Ford Taurus driven by 17-year-old James Hammock of Silver Springs when the accident occurred at 5:08 p.m. Thursday on SE 183rd Avenue Road near SE 50th Street, according to an accident report from the Florida Highway Patrol.

The juvenile was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.

Hammock suffered minor injuries and was transported to Ocala Regional Medical Center.

Both had been wearing seatbelts, the report noted.
