Ocala man dies after tumbling 180 feet in crash of his Harley-Davidson Sportster

An Ocala man died Monday night after tumbling 180 feet in the crash of his Harley-Davidson Sportster on State Road 40 in Marion County.

Mark Hanson, 53, was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident which occurred at 11:33 p.m., according to an accident report from the Florida Highway Patrol.

He had been traveling westbound when he locked the motorcycle’s rear brake and laid the motorcycle on its left side. He fell from the motorcycle which went on to slide on its left side for more than 360 feet, the report indicated.

He had not been wearing a helmet, the report noted.
