Driver whose car ran off U.S. Hwy. 27/441 told police he was having ‘car trouble’

Jamaine Mckoy

A driver arrested on a drunk driving charge told police he was having “car trouble” when he ran off the road in Fruitland Park.

Jamaine McKoy, 46, of Leesburg, had been driving at about 7 p.m. Thursday on U.S. Hwy. 27/441 at Berckman Street when his car left the roadway, according to an arrest report from the Fruitland Park Police Department. He said he was having “car trouble.”

EMS arrived on the scene, but McKoy declined an evaluation.

It appeared he had been drinking and a bottle of ABC vodka was found in his vehicle.

He declined to participate in field sobriety exercises indicating he didn’t believe he could pass the test. He also refused to provide a breath sample.

McKoy was arrested on his third DUI within 10 years and refusal to submit to a breath test.

He was booked at the Lake County Jail. He was released after posting $6,000 bond.
