CDD 10 to look at its rules after resident’s complaint about neighbor’s lush landscaping

The Community Development District 10 Board of Supervisors will look at its Architectural Review Committee manual after a resident said his neighbor’s lush landscaping may be a little too much for him.

Ralph Durban, who lives in the Harlow Villas in the Village of LaBelle North, raised his concern Thursday afternoon when the board met at the District Office.

Durban showed photographs to the supervisors to bolster his position.

A neighbor’s lush landscaping prompted a complaint in the Harlow Villas in the Village of LaBelle North.

Photos show a distinct difference between the home with extensive landscaping and Durban’s gray home, which is devoid of decorations.

CDD 10 Chairman Don Wiley expressed reluctance at getting involved.

“We don’t want to get in the middle of an issue between neighbors,” Wiley said.

The chairman encouraged Durban to speak to his neighbor about the landscaping.

However, staff suggested research could be done in the matter, including taking a look at the language in the Architectural Review Manual.

Supervisor Chris Bradshaw expressed concern that some work already done by residents could be in peril.

“If we were to change it, it wouldn’t be retroactive, would it?” she asked.

District Counsel Valerie Fuchs said CDD 10 residents who received the proper approval of the Architectural Review Committee wouldn’t have anything to fear.

“If they have their approval, they would be OK,” she said.
