A Villager’s son was arrested on a drunk driving charge after witnesses chased him down after a hit-and-run crash.
David Miaskowksi, 24, had been at the wheel of a black Hyundai shortly before 8 p.m. Saturday when he fled the scene of a hit-and-run crash at U.S. 301 and County Road 462, according to an arrest report from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office.
A deputy caught up with Miaskowski at Bailey Trail and Lakewood Drive, not far from his father’s home on Oconee Place in the Village of Poinciana. The deputy could “immediately smell the odor of alcohol” coming from Miaskowski’s beath, the arrest report said. Miaskowski told the deputy he had consumed “two beers.” Miaskowski admitted he was aware that he was involved in an accident and that he “intently left the scene to make it home.”
Two witnesses in another vehicle followed Miaskowsi and called law enforcement.
Miaskowski failed field sobriety exercises and provided breath samples that registered .113 and .110 blood alcohol content. He was arrested on charges of driving under the influence and hit and run. He was booked at the Sumter County Detention Center and released after posting $1,500 bond.
