Villagers will perform ‘Cabaret’ to benefit Honor Flight, SOZO Kids

KC Productions, formerly KK Productions, will bring the Tony Award winning version of Cabaret to The Villages for a limited engagement. Nearly 50 Villagers will help put on the show, which will run from April 8 until April 12, 2014 at the Savannah Center. Tickets are currently on sale at the Villages Box Office.

The event will benefit both The Villages Honor Flight and the SOZO Kids of The Forest. KC Productions has helped raise funds for the SOZO kids for the past three years.

“I feel so strongly about the children who are in such need. It breaks my heart…so close to us here in The Villages, where we enjoy so many privileges, and they have so very little,” said Joan Knapton, the organizer behind KC Productions and Cabaret. “I want to do as much as I can to help,” she added.

Knapton says that Honor Flight came to her attention during a recent flight and heralds the organization as truly veteran-oriented. “It’s all about the [veterans]” said Knapton regarding the organization’s focus.

As a stalwart for entertainment in the area, this is not KC Productions’ first foray into high-quality performances. Operated by Knapton since 2009, KC Productions has produced countless variety shows and Broadway events for Villagers to enjoy. Many may recall the Showstoppers variety shows that they have previously performed.

The Villages version of Cabaret has been in production for over six months and Knapton assures that the cast, story, and music are sure to make the show a magical one for spectators.

“Sassy dance numbers, funny and moving scenes, beautiful music, rich dialogue, and a surprising end,” are just a few of the elements spectators can expect to see, says Knapton.

“[The show] will offer a cast who believes profoundly in the concept of the show,” a quality Knapton suggests will captivate the audience.

The show is directed and choreographed by Sue Shuler, who has been the musical director and choreographer for numerous local productions including Chicago and Fiddler on the Roof, among others. The rest of the cast includes Andy Malinosky, Bill Krone, Gail Baumann, Steve Rubin, Marlene Caplis, Jim Beddia, and the Kit Kat Girls.
