Motorcyclist killed in accident near Coleman Federal Correctional Facility

A 50-year-old Leesburg motorcyclist was killed in an accident at 6:40 a.m. Tuesday on County Road 470 East in Sumter County.

Carmen Berneatha Small, 55, of Coleman, was traveling eastbound on CR-470 in the left turn lane and was attempting to make a left turn into the Coleman Federal Correctional Facility when her vehicle struck a Harley-Davidson ridden by  David R. Fenne, according to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol.

The report noted that Small failed to see the motorcycle.

Sumter EMS transported Fenne to Leesburg Regional Medical Center where he died of his injuries.

The FHP report indicated that Fenne had not been wearing a helmet.
