Home in Village of Bonita suspected of being struck by lightning

Firefighters from the Villages Public Safety Department put out an attic fire Thursday evening in the Village of Bonita.

The fire occurred at a home on Cottageville Lane. The homeowners were not home and the fire was spotted by firefighters in the area investigating a possible lightning strike.

The fire in the home was limited to the attic and firefighters put it out within minutes.

This is the third suspected lightning-induced house fire in The Villages this summer. In June a home in the Village of Pinellas was destroyed by a suspected lightning strike. On July 12, a home in Lynnhaven erupted in flames during a storm.
