Puvogel’s putt puts Tierra over top to advance to semi-final match

Doug Puvogel’s winning putt drops into the hole that won the match for Tierra.

Three players from Tierra and Glenview teed off at 7:15 a.m. Friday morning as the sun rose over the horizon, in a 3-hole sudden-death playoff to determine which team would get into the semi-final matches this afternoon.

All three matches went to the third hole and final hole.  Matches one and two were tied after their 3 hole match. That left the match of Doug Puvogel (Tierra) and Bob Wade (Glenview) to determine  the outcome.

Bob Wade, captain of Glenview, was one down and needed to win the third hole of his match to continue the sudden death playoff.   His 15 foot birdie putt to tie the match, and continue on, slid just past the hole by inches. That left Doug Puvogel with a putt of about 3 feet to advance Tierra into the afternoon matches.

There was dead silence among the 30 or so spectators surrounding the green.

Puvogel made the putt to win the match, and was congratulated by his other 13 teammates, who had got up early to watch, on the final green.
