The multi-modal trail in Community Development District 4 now has a yellow stripe painted down the middle.

The work was completed Friday.

This brings to conclusion a long-fought battle originally waged by the late Rich Lambrecht.

As a member of the Amenity Authority Committee, Lambrecht had pushed for the yellow stripe, arguing that it would enhance safety.

“Most residents in the Villages use their golf carts like a second car. Many drive their carts to Spanish Springs for the nightly entertainment on the Square. Visibility is very difficult at night and our eye sight may not be what it use to be.  Issues like the blinding glare of on-coming headlights, rain without windshield wipers, and unlighted black pavement all add up to serious public safety issues,” said CDD 4 Chairman and Amenity Authority Committee member Don Deakin.

“Striping of the Recreation Trails will greatly improve visibility and public safety,” he added.

The AAC originally agreed to pay for striping in CDDs 1-4. CDDs 1, 2 and 3 turned down the offer.

The AAC later reconsidered the offer and deadlocked. In October, newly minted AAC member Deakin cast a vote against striping. (Read more about that interesting vote at the following link http://villages-news.com/aac-member-casts-shrewd-vote-keep-multi-modal-striping-alive/)
