SECOND SEED SYNERGY WEALTH SWEEPS DOUBLEHEADER TO WIN CFL PLAYOFF CHAMPIONSHIP

SEMIFINAL RESULTS

SYNERGY 7 MULBERRY 6

Synergy scored 3 runs in the bottom of the 6th inning and held off a late Mulberry rally to secure a spot in the championship game. With the help of some superb defense at first base by manager Vernon Brooks and excellent pitching by Harold Holiman Synergy held off Mulberry. Their offense was led by Rick Fredieu who had 3 hits, Paul Justice with 2 hits and 2 RBI’s and Tom Bolte who had 2 hits including an OTF home run and 2 RBI’s.

After scoring 4 runs in the first, Mulberry’s bats cooled off and they only score 2 more times in the game. With 2 outs in the 7th inning their manager, Ken Scanlon tripled but they could drive in the tying they needed to stay alive. In the loss they got 3 hits each from Ed Haith(3 RBI’s), Tom Winegarden and Tim Healy.

HARLAN 17  PAUL DAVIS RESTORATION 15

In one of the most bizarre endings to a game one could ever witness, Harlan pulled off a game ending double play to upset top seeded Paul Davis. After falling behind 15-1, Paul Davis scored 9 runs in the 4th inning and 5 runs in the 5th inning to pull close. They came up in the bottom of the 7th inning trailing 17-15 and got two runners on base with 1 out. Sub John Reedy then tripled to right field with both runners flying toward the plate. As the tying runs were about to score leaving the winning run on third base, the lead runner stumbled and fell. The trailing runner was close behind and had crossed the commit line when the throw home arrived at the plate. The result was both runners were out and the game was over much to the dismay of the stunned Paul Davis team. Harlan was led by Craig Dahlquist and winning pitcher Rick Stenson who both had 4 hits and 2 RBI’s. Ken Atkinson chipped in with 3 hits. In this heartbreaking loss, Paul Davis was led by Bob Buchanan(2 RBI’s), manager Henry Ship(home run),sub John Reedy, pitcher Jim Moyer, and Bob Fowler(2 RBI’s) who all had 3 hits.
