William (Bill) McMahan, 89, of The Villages, went to be with the Lord on February 10, 2015. He was pre-deceased by his parents, Ernst and Katherine McMahan and brother, Bud McMahan. He is survived by his beloved wife, Ruth; sister, Babs Black of Akron, Ohio; daughter, Kathy (Dave) Perozeni of Binghamton, N.Y.; sons, Bill (Krista) of Parker, Colo., Mark of Akron, Ohio; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Born in Morrisville, Pennsylvania, his family moved to Pontiac, Michigan where he lived as a young boy, then moved to Akron, Ohio where he graduated from Ellet High School.
Bill proudly served as a radio operator in the Marine Corps during World War II. He returned to Akron after the war, where he and Ruth lived until he retired from his manufacturer’s rep business to move to Florida.
He was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Akron and active in the Shrine. He volunteered for the Ombudsman Council both in Ohio and Florida.
Bill enjoyed fishing and boating. He played the bugle and harmonica. He loved to dance with his wife and talk to people everywhere he went. He had a unique way with words and had clever nicknames for people and things. His humor will be missed.
A memorial service will be held to celebrate Bill’s life on April 11, 2015 at 11 a.m. at Hope Lutheran Church, The Villages.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
