A Villages couple whose driveway battle drew law enforcement to their home on the Historic Side of The Villages earlier this month, has a history of arrests on battery charges.

George Lawrence Cantone, 74, and Vivian Grace Cantone, 68, of 1722 Myrtle Beach Drive, were each issued a Notice to Appear following the incident Nov. 5 at their home.

Vivian Cantone told Lady Lake police her husband had poked her in the eye. George Cantone said his wife, who is dependent on external oxygen, had pushed him. Both were examined by Lake EMS and both refused transport to a medical facility.

George Cantone has retained criminal defense attorney Benjamin Boylston, a candidate for Lake County judge. Bolyston will represent George Cantone on Dec. 21 in a plea negotiating conference in Lake County Court. The case is being heard by Judge James Baxley.

It is unclear as to whether Vivian Cantone has retained legal counsel.

In 2007 and 2009, George Cantone was arrested on battery charges.

In the 2007 case, he was ordered to take a domestic battery class and the case was dismissed.

In the 2009, he was placed on probation. His probation was terminated on Sept. 7, 2010.

On Aug. 24, 2011, Vivian Cantone was arrested on a charge of battery, though that charge was later dropped.

On Oct. 28, 2011 George Cantone sought an order of protection against his wife, but on Nov. 7, 2011, dropped his request.
