Unattended dog left in golf cart bites customer at grocery store in The Villages

An unattended dog left in a golf cart bit a customer at a grocery store in The Villages.

The 13-year-old mixed-breed Labrador had been sitting in the golf cart on the afternoon of Nov. 22 at the Winn-Dixie supermarket on Bichara Boulevard when a 40-year-old man approached the dog to pet it, according to an incident report from the Lady Lake Police Department. The man presented the back of his hand to the dog, but the dog bit the man’s hand breaking the skin.

The dog’s owner had been inside the store shopping.

The golf cart’s 65-year-old owner told police that she leaves the dog with her golf cart so it won’t be stolen. The woman pointed out that she has guard dog signs posted on her golf cart.

The woman will have to keep her dog under home quarantine. It’s rabies vaccination was confirmed.
