Villager killed in crash on I-75 after suffering possible medical episode

A Villager was killed in a crash Thursday on Interstate 75 after suffering a possible medical episode.

John Kelly, 80, of the Village of Duval, had been at the wheel of a 2011 Nissan Altima at 5:32 p.m. traveling southbound on I-75 at Mile Marker 366 in Marion County when the vehicle left the roadway and struck a tree, according to an accident report from the Florida Highway Patrol.

Kelly was transported to Florida Hospital in Ocala where he later died from injuries suffered in the crash.

His wife, Beth, suffered minor injuries. She was also transported to Florida Hospital in Ocala.

The Kellys purchased their home in The Villages in 2007.
