A move to the southern end of The Villages has prompted the surprise resignation of the chairman of the Community Development District 7 chairman.
Ron McMahon announced Thursday morning that he will resign effective July 15 from the board of supervisors. He is moving to the Village of Linden.
McMahon has served as a CDD 7 supervisor for nine years. He became quite emotional when he made the announcement.
“It’s been a wonderful nine years,” he said. “I sincerely thank my constituents.”
His resignation will elevate CDD 7’s vice chairman Dennis Broedlin to the role of chairman.
Supervisor Jerry Vicenti offered great praise for McMahon’s leadership and noted that when he first ran for a supervisor’s seat, he was roundly defeated by McMahon.
McMahon has long been active in Republican Party politics and last year was elected vice chairman of the Sumter County Republican Executive Committee.
McMahon has been a resident of the Hillcrest Villas in the Village of Hadley for several years.
